Protect Your Teeth with Durable Crowns and Bridges

Once a tooth is overfilled or root treated, the remaining structure becomes vulnerable to fracture. A crown or a bridge can give full coverage protection to the tooth, helping it to function as a unit when transferring chewing forces. Digital impressions (scanning) and milling makes placing a crown with CEREC® a single visit process. Getting rid of impressions, long waiting times and repeat appointments.

What Are Crowns and Bridges?

Are you dealing with damaged or missing teeth? Crowns and bridges might be exactly what you need to restore your smile and confidence.
A crown is a custom-made cap that fully covers a weakened or treated tooth, restoring its shape, strength, and appearance.
Bridges, on the other hand, are used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the surrounding natural teeth or implants, effectively “bridging” the gap.

How Do Crowns and Bridges Work?

At Thurlow Dental Care, we use advanced CEREC® technology to create and place crowns in just one visit.
Digital impressions (scanning) eliminate the need for messy traditional moulds, while the in-house milling system allows us to craft a durable, custom-fit crown on the spot.
You’ll leave the same day with a fully restored tooth, ready to function and look just like your natural one.
For bridges, the process involves anchoring a false tooth or teeth between your natural teeth or implants. These "abutments" hold the bridge securely in place, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile confidently.
With the support of modern dental technology, bridges can be designed to feel and look as natural as possible, giving you the stability and aesthetics you need.

What Problems Do Crowns and Bridges Help With?

Crowns and bridges help you protect your oral health while restoring the look and function of your teeth. Here are some problems these treatments can fix.
  • Weak or Cracked Teeth: If your tooth is feeling fragile from cracks or large fillings, a crown can protect it from further damage, giving you the strength to chew and smile without worry.
  • Root-Treated Teeth: After a root canal, your tooth is more vulnerable. A crown acts like a shield, keeping it strong and functional so you can go about your day without discomfort.
  • Missing Teeth: Gaps in your smile can be more than just cosmetic. Bridges replace those missing teeth, filling the space seamlessly while preventing nearby teeth from shifting out of place.
  • Worn or Stained Teeth: Are your teeth worn down or badly stained? You can benefit from crowns. Not only do they restore the tooth’s strength, but they also give you a whiter, more natural look.
  • Support for Implants: If you’ve had dental implants, a bridge can complete the restoration by securing the replacement teeth, giving you a stable, permanent solution for your missing teeth.
  • Improved Bite and Comfort: Struggling to chew properly due to missing or damaged teeth? Crowns and bridges can restore your bite, making eating and speaking comfortable again.

    FAQs

A dental crown can last anywhere from 10 to 15 years, sometimes even longer with proper care. Regular check-ups, good oral hygiene, and avoiding hard or sticky foods can all help extend the life of your crown.

They are permanent restorations designed to protect your tooth for the long term. In some cases, we may place a temporary crown while your permanent one is being made. But once your permanent crown is in place, it’s there to provide lasting strength and support.

Typically, getting a dental bridge takes two appointments. During the first visit, we prepare the surrounding teeth and take impressions. At the second appointment, we fit and secure the bridge.

However, with advanced technology like CEREC®, we may be able to complete certain treatments in just one visit. We'll discuss the best option for your specific case when you come in.
