How does Dental Fillings Work?

Dental fillings are a common procedure used to restore teeth that have been damaged by decay, cracks, or other types of wear.

The process is straightforward and highly effective. First, we remove the decayed or damaged part of the tooth to prevent further issues. Then, we clean the area to ensure it’s free of bacteria.

After that, we fill the space with a tooth-coloured composite material that blends seamlessly with your natural teeth.

This material not only restores the tooth’s function but also strengthens it, allowing you to chew and speak with ease again.

A final polish is then carried out to ensure the tooth is both smooth and natural-looking.

What Problems Dental Filling can help with?

  • Tooth decay or cavities.
  • Cracked or chipped teeth.
  • Worn-down teeth from grinding (bruxism).
  • Damage from trauma or injury.
  • Replacement of old or broken fillings.
  • Sealing gaps that can lead to further decay.

FAQ

The procedure is virtually pain-free. We’ll numb the area around the tooth with a local anaesthetic to ensure you don’t feel any discomfort. Some patients may feel slight pressure during the process, but pain is minimal to none.

With proper care, a filling can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years. Regular dental check-ups and maintaining good oral hygiene help ensure the longevity of your fillings.

Fillings can fall out due to factors like wear and tear, biting down on something hard, or decay forming around the edges of the filling.

If a filling does fall out, it’s important to contact us so we can replace it and prevent further damage to the tooth.
